Pula-based agency Extremesurvive has come up with an original recipe for enhancing the tourist offer, and so far, it's going quite well. Surviving in the wilderness of Istria - the new tourist sensation. In this course, there are no sleeping bags or tents. Teeth are brushed with charcoal, and drinking water is sourced from nature and boiled, says Boris Stermotic, the wilderness survival instructor.

The end of the week, specifically Friday at five o'clock in the afternoon, is a signal for action for the little Barefooters. They grab their forest backpacks and head to the Sijanska forest, where they are greeted by their leader - Ris, or Boris Stermotic. He boasts about something that has never been done before, giving a new dimension to children's education, a dimension that is increasingly important in our current times - living in harmony with nature. Once you enter the School, it's hard to leave. The Barefooters learn in a way that they explore, climb trees, build shelters, sleep in caves, push their boundaries, and learn the value of teamwork.
Fall brings the harvest of fruits on most perennial plants such as apples, pears, plums, grapes... Similarly, during autumn, the majority of deciduous trees will shed their leaves. Additionally, during fall, animals that hibernate will complete their accumulation of fat reserves and food supplies that will enable them to survive the winter.

Nowhere without tampons. In the basic survival kit for navigating nature in extreme conditions, two tampons have found their place, serving a surprising purpose. They can be used for fire starting and water filtration in the wild, making them an essential survival tool.
On a deserted island near Zadar, the only Croatian School for Survival, "Extreme Survive," spent five unforgettable days on the abandoned island of Skarda.
SURVIVAL: Pushing the limits of human physical abilities. Eating bugs for dinner, drinking water from puddles - the region of Varazdin, with its two new survival instructors and a large number of members, has become a hub for survival enthusiasts in Croatia.
Every participant, through practical workshops following the motto "try to learn," becomes a proud guardian of their ancestors' traditions and natural values. They also develop a deeper self-awareness and a sense of belonging to the group through teamwork, fostering even greater quality awareness.
Four members of the Croatian School of Extreme Survival and three members of the Italian Team Survive have turned their idea of surviving on an uninhabited island into a true expedition this summer, pushing their physical and mental limits of endurance.
Organizer Boris Stermotich recommends that children who love adventure and nature, who want to understand how to navigate in the wilderness, build shelters, start fires, climb ropes, track animal footprints, use knives, learn about traps, medicinal and useful plants, should join ASAP to outdoor education.
A NEW FORM OF NATURE SCHOOL, Survival Adventure for students, is being offered to schools and sports clubs. In collaboration with the Mountaineering Society Glas Istre, we would use their base camp at Korita. We are currently finalizing the program with around 20 students from Zadar who will arrive in spring, and we are also preparing a contract with Slovenian participants. However, I would like to engage schools, clubs, and institutions from Istria as well," stated Boris Stermotic.
