The course was supposed to be fairly easy, adjusted for girls with little or no experience, but the weather was harsh, wet, and cold during the night, so we had to make a fire with wet wood. We had to spend the night alone, tending to the fire and experiencing solitude. It was tough. We smoked like bacon. We saw a fox in our camp and heard a lot of wildlife sounds all around us. Still, we felt very safe knowing our experienced guides were close by, but invisible. Our instructor Boris (Lynx) and assistant Robi (White Wolf) are walking encyclopedias, very professional, yet friendly. They taught us so much: tying knots, making a shelter by hand, starting a fire in wet conditions, how to safely handle knives, saws, and axes, and how to make traps. We also had basic training in orienteering and map reading. It really pushed our limits, so in the end we got diplomas for the "Basic Autumn Course". I liked it so much that I went to Island Survival a few weeks ago. I will try the other courses as soon as possible.

★★★★★ We had a great time in Croatia and learned a lot of new skills from the very competent and friendly instructors Boris, Vlado, and Dražen. They were great at putting together a program that challenged us all without being too difficult for anyone. We started with Dražen teaching us camouflage and moving stealthily through hostile territory, followed by an eight-hour evasion exercise trying to avoid being caught by a great group of Croatian trackers. Then we sailed to a "deserted" island in front of Pula, where Boris and Vlado taught us survival skills for a couple of days. Before arriving, some of our students were worried about the language barrier, but everyone understood the Croatians perfectly. In fact, it was better than when we took students to similar courses in England! Therefore, we wholeheartedly recommend taking a course at the Croatian Outdoor Survival School to anyone interested in survival skills, living off natural resources, or nature. Because of our previous great experience, we are returning again in 2014 with a new group.
